License to Drive

The Washington State Department of Licensing is sending me a shiny, new Washington State Driver's License. It was not easy to come by -- I had to pass the 25 question written driving test. I did it back when I was 16, but it's been a long time since I memorized the finer points of road rules.

For those who may have driving tests in their future, here's a few of my favorite tid-bits:
  1. You have to park at least 20 feet from a Fire Station if you're on the same side of the road, and at least 75 feet if you're on the opposite side of the road.
  2. Alcohol is involved in 40% of all traffic collisions in which someone is killed.
  3. If a collision results in injury, death, or property damage of $700 or more, you must file a Collision Report within 4 days. (I got this one wrong... I said 2 days.)
  4. When riding at night, the a bicycle must have a WHITE headlight visible to 500 feet, and a RED reflector visible for 600 feet to the rear.

If you'd like, you can even take a Practice Test on the DoL Web site.
