It's Dynamite!

You may have heard mixed reviews out there about Napoleon Dynamite.

I'm hear to tell you it's worth parting with $10 and 2 hours of your life. It's one of those films you should see in the theater because part of what's so funny is the things the rest of the audience laughs at. Comedy of this sort is a community experience, for sure.

The film itself is very quirky and unconventional. It's devoid of the hollywood-style swelling refrains, there is no crescendo to the pivotal plot moment, and it is infailingly about odd characters. It is a perfect capture of life as an awkward teen in rural Idaho, and it is full of lines that my friends have taken up as part of their vocabulary. The most impressive is Fouts who does an eerily good rendition of older brother Kip's nasal voice.

Go see it -- expect to be uncomfortable, expect to laugh, and expect to see a Trapper Keeper and some Moon Boots.
