South End Remembered

I lived in the best place ever for the last five years, and I just left it to move across the country. In saying farewell to my Boston digs, I have the best memento to take with me... a painting of my building. It totally captures that South End look: bricks, stairs, trees, iron gates, and amazing 19th century craftsmanship.

Strolling home one evening, I ran into Charles Tersolo working on a painting of an Appleton St. building. We got started chatting, and about two weeks later, I had this amazing painting of my home. To all of you South End folk, you should track this guy down and either buy something he's already done, or ask him to paint your home. His style totally captures the spirit of the buildings and the neighborhood.

And what a neighborhood it is! I have to take a moment to remember the other haunt I loved so much... The Appleton Bakery and Cafe, which was my "Cheers bar" that I'd visit every morning, chat with the regulars, and start my day off right. I'll miss saying good morning to Joel, chatting with Jim and Greg and Lisa, and I'll miss those amazing muffins and rolled scones, and the breakfast sandwich and, last but not least, the Pastrami sandwich that's only available on Saturdays at lunch. Yum!!
